Barely days remain as one of the longest awaited heavyweight showdowns finally becomes a reality, as the ‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) prepares to lock horns with his longtime foe, Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). The boxing community and fans are undoubtedly at the edge of their seats in anticipation. As their gazes turn to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Fury reveals why his fight against Usyk is a historic moment.

Fury was recently in an exclusive interview with Dev Sahni. In conversation, Sahni asked him about his thoughts on potentially winning his belts back. Fury was previously the lineal champion of the heavyweight division, whose titles were later stripped away, “To win them all back again, it’d be fantastic. You know, to get them all under one banner again for the first time in 25 years,” he said in response.

Fury further mentioned that there have been a few heavyweight champions in those 25 years. However, no one was able to secure the undisputed title since the Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs) vs. Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29 KOs) fight of 1999. “It is a very special moment, especially for heavyweight boxing. To have all the belts on one line and two undefeated champions fighting each other for all the belts. It’s a historic event for Saudi Arabia and for boxing,” Fury said.

Meanwhile, Fury added that he already possesses all the belts the sport has to offer and stated that he would be gifting the belts from the fight to Turki Alalshikh as a present.

“Best opponent I’ve ever faced”

The duo might have a longstanding beef, but there is no denying that both deeply respect each other’s skill sets. In fact, Fury even considers Usyk his best opponent yet.

“I think he’s the best opponent I’ve ever faced,” he said in an interview with DAZN. “I’ve fought world heavyweight champions before or undefeated people before, I’ve fought Olympic gold medalists before, but I’ve never fought a two-weight world champion before. So, I think that puts him at the top of it all.”
