D-backs’ Jordan Montgomery Struggles, Dodgers Win 8-0
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Montgomery’s debut at Chase Field didn’t unfold as planned, with the lefty surrendering six earned runs in three innings, paving the way for an 8-0 Dodgers blowout to conclude the three-game series.

The bulk of the damage inflicted by the Dodgers occurred in the 2nd inning, where they tallied five runs against Montgomery. After retiring the first batter, Montgomery struggled, issuing two walks, conceding a two-run homer, a couple of doubles, and a two-out, two-RBI base hit.

The Dodgers’ momentum continued into the 3rd inning, with Will Smith launching a leadoff homer, extending their lead to 6-0.

With victory seeming out of reach, the Diamondbacks turned to Blake Walston, a former 1st round pick, for his major league debut. Walston showed promise initially, tossing two shutout innings. However, he encountered control issues in the 7th, walking three batters, resulting in two runs to make it an 8-0 game.

On the offensive side of things, Joc Pederson picked up nearly half of the D-backs hits, going 3-4 at the plate. While they only struck out four times, Arizona’s offense failed to put any pressure on the basepaths as only five runners reached scoring position.

The Diamondbacks’ best scoring opportunity arose in the bottom of the 9th, with runners positioned on 2nd and 3rd. However, Jake McCarthy’s groundout to 2nd base sealed the game’s fate.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto took the mound for Los Angeles to start, delivering six shutout innings, mirroring his performance in his previous start against the Nationals last week.

Up next for the Diamondbacks is a three-game series against the San Diego Padres, commencing on Friday at 6:40 PM.
