Watch: Islam Makhachev hilariously ‘loses’ to UFC Hall of Famer’s son ahead of title defense against Dustin Poirier

Islam Makhachev is looking to make his comeback in 2024. He has an upcoming fight this June against Dustin Poirier. However, has Makhachev found a new training partner? UFC legend Frankie Edgar has released a video on Instagram of his son training with the lightweight champion.

Frankie Edgar has over 750K followers on Instagram. He recently shared a post where Islam Makhacehev is seen training with his son.

The video showed Edgar’s son trying to grapple with Makhachev. We can see him trying to take a double leg many times. Although Makhachev is simply staying put and toying with him, he does not make it easy for him either. Ultimately in the final few seconds, the young boy manages to get Makhachev down to the ground and secure his leg.

Makhachev’s fight is in around two weeks. He has been training with Frankie Edgar at Nick Catone MMA in New Jersey. It must have been an exhilarating experience for a young man interested in martial arts to get to grapple with one of the best fighters in the world.

Is Islam Makhachev the greatest fighter in UFC today?

Islam Makhachev is currently one of the top fighters on the UFC roster. He ranks #1 in the men’s pound-for-pound rankings and is the reigning lightweight champion. But is he the greatest fighter in UFC today?

Makhachev’s manager Ali Abdelaziz is undoubtedly one of his biggest hypemen and according to him, he is. Abdelaziz recently sent out a tweet on X. There he shared his experience of being in camp with the champion for two weeks now. He wrote that Makhachev do whatever he wants to whoever he wants.

Abdelaziz wrote that on fight night, Makhachev would put on a masterclass regardless of whoever was in the cage with him. Makhachev vs. Poirier will headline UFC 302 this June at the Prudential Center In Newark, New Jersey. It will be interesting to see what performance Makhachev puts on against Dustin Poirier after being termed the greatest fighter in the UFC.
