Miami Heat Legend Has 1 Big Problem With Los Angeles Lakers’ Potential JJ Redick Hiring
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

JJ Redick has been the talk of the town in the City of Angels after rumors surfaced he’s a prime candidate to for the Los Angeles Lakers’ vacant coaching gig. For Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem, though, there’s one big problem if the former NBA star is hired.

For the last two seasons, Darvin Ham guided LeBron James and the Lakers. During the previous playoffs, the former Milwaukee Bucks star managed to coach Los Angeles to the Western Conference Finals after going through the Play-In Tournament. Unfortunately, they faced a Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets and fell to them in a clean four-game sweep.

This year, the Lakers were on a mission to exact revenge on Denver and make a deep playoff run at the same time. But even with a healthy duo of James and Anthony Davis, LA only mustered an eighth-seed finish after going through the Play-In Tournament again. As a result, they ended up facing Denver in the first round of the playoffs.

As seen in their series, the Lakers didn’t stand a chance against Denver as the James and company exited the playoffs earlier than they expected. This led the front office to fire Darvin Ham and search for a new head coach for next season.

Even though Redick hasn’t landed the gig yet, there are some concerns about him already. Haslem voiced out the biggest problem in a video posted by NBA on ESPN’s official X account:

Redick is known to have one of the most popular NBA podcasts out there. Add a new one with James, and there’s reason enough for any guy playing under the former sharpshooter to be wary of him.

It’s not yet known whether Redick will get the job or the front office will go with someone else. In any case, it’s going to be a challenging search for the Lakers in the coming months.
