Insant impact players to watch at New York Jets NFL Rookie Minicamp who could breakout this season
Alberto Silva Fernandez/ El Paso Times / USA TODAY NETWORK

The 2024 NFL Draft is behind us. The NFL offseason is now in full swing. Next up: Rookie Minicamps. The New York Jets will be welcoming all of their draft picks, undrafted free agent signings, and camp invite players for their rookie minicamp this week!

The rookie minicamp at the Jets practice facility will start Friday May 3rd and span the entire weekend. This is a great opportunity for each and every incoming rookie to make their presence known, proving to the team that they're ready to make an instant impact in year one for the team.

Let's dive into some of the new players who will be making their first appearance at rookie minicamp and could be primed to break out this season for the Jets!

Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT Penn State

The Jets may have both tackle spots patched up even without day one every-down impact with Tyron Smith (LT) and Morgan Moses (RT), but they're both 33 years old. Smith hasn't played a completely full season since 2015. Moses had been an iron man until he missed some time last year.

Olu Fashanu is obviously the future at left tackle for the Jets, but he could end up making an impact at both tackle spots in year one depending on how the two elder statesmen hold up. Fashanu boasts perfect size (outside of his hands) and traits to help keep Aaron Rodgers upright right away. However, he'll need to prove to his teammates and staffers at rookie minicamp and beyond that he's ready before he earns an every snap role on a surprisingly stacked Jets roster.

Braelon Allen, RB Wisconsin

Wisconsin has sent several top running backs to the league over the years (Jonathan Taylor, Melvin Gordon, James White just to name a few). Braelon Allen is just the next great running back in a long line of success stories. The Jets definitely have their lead running back in Breece Hall, but beyond him they desperately need another talent to step up.

Braelon Allen racked up nearly 4000 yards from scrimmage in his three years at Wisconsin. He brings great strength, underrated receiving ability, size, and will be 20 years old for nearly his entire rookie season. If he shows well early there's no reason he doesn't lock into the RB2 role. Israel Abanikanda, his only competition, was pretty terrible on a small sample last season managing just 113 yards on 29 touches.

Malachi Corley, WR Western Kentucky

The Jets need another wide receiver to step up outside of Garrett Wilson. They did just add Mike Williams this spring via free agency, but he's missed 17 games in the last two years. They might need to rely on Corley quite a bit.

Corley averaged more yards after the catch per reception and target than any other receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft class. Per Pro Football Focus, 975 of his 1,282 receiving yards came after the catch in 2023. He's an incredibly slippery and strong player, built more like a running back than receiver at 5'11", 215 pounds. And he deals out physical blows with that size as you can see in the post below from Connor Rogers. The Jets could use a physical slot receiver like him.

Qwan'tez Stiggers, DB Toronto Argonauts

Qwan'tez Stiggers is one of the best stories in the 2024 NFL Draft. He never actually got to play college football for a number of reasons. His first season with Lane College was canceled due to the pandemic, then his father passed away. When he tried to jump back into football he had to play in the "Fan Controlled Football" 7-on-7 league. He played well enough to land a spot in the CFL playing for the Toronto Argonauts and starred immediately. Just an unbelievable rise for Stiggers.

Now a fifth round pick for the New York Jets, Stiggers brings with him an incredibly unique set of experiences to the roster. He won't be a normal rookie at this week's minicamp. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him immediately assert himself into dime packages as the team's sixth defensive back right away.
